Opting for an overly aggressive approach
One of the biggest mistakesin my opinion that we can make when we start in SEO, is the fact of having an approach that will be too aggressive. Indeed, when we start creating a website, we would like to have results immediately, and therefore traffic right away. Thus, it can be easy to be tempted by an aggressive approach, often close to what we can call blackhat SEO. I will have the opportunity to make other articles on the subject to explain in more detail what it is.
But in summary, there are two main ways to do SEO:
- White Hat SEO
- Black Hat SEO
White Hat SEO
The white Hat SEO will group the methods and strategies that will respect the guidelines, in other words the rules that are proposed by Google. Therefore, there is no risk of penalties.
Black Hat SEO
Then on the other side, there is Black Hat SEO. In other words, these are methods or strategies that aim to increase the traffic of a website by opting for practices that are not at all accepted by Google. Black Hat is an area that requires real expertise, in order to avoid possible penalties from Google. Is Black Hat an important source of traffic? The answer is clearly yes. Nevertheless, be aware that there is a kind of sword of Damocles that will be on your website and therefore on your business with techniques or ways of doing things that will not be accepted by Google.
A 100% White Hat strategy for My SEO Agency Twaino
For my SEO agency Twaino, I only implement SEO campaigns that are White Hat. Why is that? Well, the reason is quite simple…Google always catches up with people who do Black Hat. The only good question is when? Depending on the level of expertise, it could be a matter of days, weeks, months or years. But at some point, it won’t hold because the algorithms are getting smarter.
Beware of immediate results in SEO
And if you are a client and you want to have results in SEO, all the people who will tell you that they are able to have immediate results thanks to SEO, beware because most of the time, the immediate results except in rare situations in the rare cases, most of the time it will be blackhat. So indeed, SEO in general, it is something that must be in a logic of medium to long term.

If you have a website and a blog, consider them really as extensions of your business. Therefore, it is wise to have a long term logic for your activity. Indeed, the objective of SEO is to allow your company to get visibility and traction, with a business that is sustainable.
Should we totally ban Black Hat SEO?
Then my answer to that is clear: no. Why not? Because even if I personally don’t do Black Hat SEO, it is always interesting to see the techniques that can be used by black hat experts to potentially get inspired and try to adapt them to White Hat SEO. This is a good perspective because often Black Hat experts can have an original approach, even innovative. Therefore, you can with the real Black Hat experts capitalize on their knowledge and then turn these processes into White Hat.
Forget about massive low quality content!
Another mistake that can be made, and which can be quite similar to what Black Hat SEO experts can do, is to propose poor quality content. If you are ever tempted by a strategy such as adding massive amounts of low quality content on your website, I tell you, it was a method that worked a few years ago, but clearly now, it does not work anymore. Indeed, there have been updates to the algorithms especially with Google Panda. So, if you have content that is called “thin content” in English, it is content that is not at all appreciated by Google, and which is generally without interest for users.
Go for quality!
If you have a website with a lot of thin pages, and therefore content that is of poor quality or poor, I really advise you to improve them. For example, you can write more words, or go into more detail. In short, make quality articles. In this day and age, quality is paramount in order to guarantee an excellent user experience.
For example, one of the methods that could be practiced before, was to make automatic translations via google translate especially with plugins. For example, there are articles in French that you can automatically translate into other languages. The problem is that the translations are often approximate with google translate, even if they have tended to improve over time. But overall, it is not an exceptional quality. Then, if you have pages that are basically very thin so with less than 300 words, and you translate that into other languages, it will also be considered as “thin content“.
The two most important factors to rank in Google
There are two factors that are very important to rank in Google.
Today, more than ever, content is king. Indeed, SEO in general can evolve a lot but content is a kind of constant with google. Therefore, if you make quality content and if this content is useful to the readers, then without any doubt your articles or pages will rank well in Google. This consistency with content is reassuring because it confirms that creating quality content always works.
The other element, the backlinks. Indeed, this is the other important factor to rank well in Google. From my point of view, this factor of backlinks will in the future be brought to decrease in importance, even if it is not yet the case. Indeed, I believe that content will take even more the lead in the coming years. Backlinks are hypetext links to your website, placed by third party sites. The more you have, and the more qualitative they are, the better it is for your website which will improve its authority.
The problem, at the moment, there is a real market of buying and selling backlinks. And in the end, it distorts the “game” – the game with google. So I think that backlinks will still be an important factor in the future, but this importance will be reduced.
Between Black HatSEO or White Hat SEO, it’s up to you to make your choice. Personally, I made mine, the White Hat, a choice that I assume with my clients for my SEO agency Twaino. Then it’s up to you to see what you want to do with your website. From my point of view, if you have a long-term business logic, White Hat SEO is the best method. Indeed, with Black Hat SEO, at some point, you will inevitably be caught by the patrol and therefore Google will penalize you it’s only a matter of time.
Another element, the content. Make sure you have quality content in order to satisfy the visitors who will visit your website. Indeed, the logic of quantity, with the pouring of poor quality content does not work today.
